In October, 2004, I visited the village of Driffield in Gloucestershire, where George Hanger, as well as his parents, one brother and his sister and brother-in-law are buried.

St. Mary's church, Driffield is a lovely and very tiny church set beside the road which runs through the village.

George's memorial hangs on the north wall of the chancel. A close-up of the text (right), shows that it reflects George's life very well. Even his monument brings a smile. Odd epitaphs seem to be a family trait. George's father, Gabriel, is memorialized with the comment "Here lieth in expectation of the last Day, Gabriel Hanger, Lord Coleraine 1773, what manner of man he was that day will disclose."

While we don't know exactly where Ban Tarleton is buried, George's resting place is marked with a plaque. It lies at the center of the front of the nave, just in front of the step up to the chancel. (One source I found said he was buried in the churchyard, but this marker seems to clearly indicate otherwise.)
