Tho' I have nothing of consequence to communicate, I will not let slip an Opportunity of informing your Lordship that every thing is quiet at this Post.
By a person whom I sent to Cheraws I am informed that three days ago Gen'l Harrington received an Express from Wilmington, acquainting him with the appearance of a Fleet off Cape Fear. Harrington wanted to persuade the people, that it was [p2] a French Fleet; but they were not inclined to give credit to him. My informant understood, that the beginning of last week was the time when the Fleet was supposed to be seen: He was told at Cheraws, that Gates was under Arrest
