Banastre Tarleton to Earl Cornwallis

Daniels Plantation
Decr 18 1780

My Lord

I moved from Woodwards this Morning to this Place -- Forage was my only Motive: I have not alter'd my Distance from Winsboro above 4 Miles & about an equal Number from Byerlys. The Roads owing to the bad Weather & the poverty of my Waggon Horses rendered the Movement indispensably necessary -- [p2] On the Place I am now, I cannot obtain by camping at 6 or 7 Miles above three Days Forage, but however I shall use every Means not to retire much further -- I have sent two People out into your Lordships Front -- Forage & Intelligence must be obtained --

I will send a Man to Major McArthur (he knows of my Move) to ascertain the Ground -- I wish to hear of McLeroth. I hope he has come off handsomely [p3] News from Charles Town will be exceedingly pleasant as the Troops are now near ready to second your Lordships Wishes--

I have the Honor
to be
Your Lordship's
Most devot'd Servt
Ban: Tarleton
